Fudan University on Jan 23 inked a strategic partnership with Cambodia's University of Health Sciences (UHS) to enhance academic exchanges in the medical sector.
The two parties will work together to deepen cooperation in scientific research, educational training and talent cultivation in areas like clinical medicine, pharmacy, nursing and public health, according to the memorandum of understanding signed in Phnom Penh.
Action plans include the establishment of a joint global health center, conducting joint research projects and promoting faculty member and student exchange programs through various initiatives.
The partnership comes at a time when bilateral relations have been bolstered following a meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Beijing earlier this week where they pledged to deepen cooperation in sectors such as education and youth exchange.
"The agreement marks one of the latest implementations of the strategic consensus reached between our state leaders," said Jiao Yang, chancellor of Fudan University, during the signing ceremony.
Noting that health is the prerequisite of people's well-being and the basis for sound social economic development, Jiao said the tie-up serves as a window of opportunity to carry out more tangible collaboration as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Chinese delegation also visited UHS' simulation teaching centers and watched students practice suturing techniques.
"I strongly hope that through this MOU our two universities will work together closely for our common interest to follow in the footsteps of our leaders to strengthen friendship between the two countries," said Saphonn Vonthanak, rector of UHS.
