In 2006, he graduated from the Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences with a Ph.D. (Major in Quaternary Geology, supervisor and researcher Zhou Jie). Since 2012, he has been an associate professor at the Institute of Chinese Historical Geography of Fudan University. He used to be a postdoctoral and lecturer in the Department of Science and Technology History and Archaeology of the University of Science and Technology of China, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong, a visiting lecturer at the Department of History at the University of Hamburg, a visiting researcher at the International Studies Education Institute of the University of Learning, and a visiting scholar at the Education University of Hong Kong Tian Jiabing.
