The so-called Silk Road provides various myths. Ge Jianxiong, Professor of Center for Historical Geographical Studies, Fudan University, endeavored to clarify several points and to correct several misunderstanding about the historical role of China in the Silk Road. According to Professor Ge, the main actors that exerted the shaping influence on the Silk Road were the Arabs, Persians, Indians and other groups in Central Asia, while the Chinese played a relatively passive role. Therefore, the Belt and Road Initiative should not be the same as it was in the past. It will rather be promoted to form a community of shared interests by establishing new connections and creating mutual benefits.
