BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The China-constructed Belgrano railway renovation project in Argentina is scheduled to be completed in 2020 and will spur the country's economic development, said a local railway engineer.

In 2013, China Machinery Engineering Corporation became the general contractor of Belgrano railway renovation project by virtue of its financing and cost-effective advantages, which is one of the successful case for Chinese enterprises to enter the market of Argentina under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Since the start of construction in September 2014, about 600 kilometers of railway track have been reconstructed, and the train speed will be up to 90 kilometers per hour with the number of trailers to reach 100 carriages per row.

The reconstructed railway will enable China to import more quality agricultural products from Argentina and is a win-win project for both countries, said the engineer. (Edited by Bao Nuomin, Yang Yifan, baonuomin@xinhua.org, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
