BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- On the evening of April 19, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, as the special representative of President Xi Jinping, attended and delivered a speech at the UN Security Council High-level Open Debate on Strengthening UN Cooperation with Regional and Sub-regional Organizations.

Wang Yi said that the cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations is a clear requirement of the UN Charter and an important manifestation of multilateralism. At present, the challenges in the field of international peace and security are acute. The United Nations and regional organizations should make concerted efforts to uphold multilateralism and contribute to world peace and development.

Wang Yi put forward four points. First, we need to act in accordance with the rules and lay a solid foundation for peace. Second, we should put prevention first and diversify means for peace. Third, we need to draw on each other's strengths to form synergy for peace. Fourth, we need to pursue common development and cultivate the soil of peace.

Wang stressed that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China's restoration of its lawful seat in the United Nations. China has always been an active supporter and participant in the cause of the United Nations and a staunch defender and practitioner of the UN Charter. China always supports the UN in strengthening cooperation with regional and sub-regional organizations and has established strategic partnerships with the African Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the League of Arab States. China is ready to further strengthen cooperation with other regional organizations and jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
